Book report from Agatha Christies And Then There Were None

Agatha Christie is known of her detective stories and And Then There Were None is a great example of marvellous detective story. And Then There Were None is one of the greatest crime novels ever written. And Then There Were None is also known as Ten Little Niggers, but it was renamed for the name was too racist. The book isn’t racist, it’s an amazing puzzle but all the pieces are missing, when you find one you can find another, and when you’ve found them all, it seems so logical. After reading the book you may think “It was so obvious, why didn’t I notice,” but it’s all because of the great plot, which makes the reader think that one knows everything.

In the beginning there are ten quests invited to the Nigger Island, which has a foggy reputation. The quests don’t know what to expect because all of them have been invited for a different reason. Their first evening on the house the quests hear a tape which is acclaiming them all of a crime. Everyone is shocked and then people start dying, not all at once of course, but they are on the island only three days, so the action is fast. All the murders follow the old nursery rhyme “Ten Little Niggers”, which is in every quest’s room. In the point when the quests understand that they are all going to die, the feeling changes and everyone who is still alive is terrified and for a reason; there is a maniac on the island and they cannot escape.

The book is totally frightening; it makes me want to scream every time I read it even if I know what’s going to happen. And Then There Were None is a masterpiece and the way it makes reader think is extraordinary. It surprises, it makes traps, it is closely considered and every detail is on its own place. And the ending is one of the most amazing ones, the novel is remarkable. And Then There Were None is one of the scariest books I’ve read, but at the same time it’s brilliant and ingenious. It makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time, which is quite insane, but it describes the book really well. The fear is tangible and really contagious. Everyone should read this book but I don’t recommend it.

Dreams come true with reality television

Reality television shows are on the top of the hill nowadays. There are programmes for everyone, from Big Brother to Dances with Stars and from Customs to Safety Helicopter, just to name a few. Almost every show on television is a reality show and all those shows have viewers. Reality shows are popular and there is also a reason: it’s easier to identify to Mary Ordinary than the most perfect and beautiful Angelina Jolie, who is great everything she does.

Reality sows are based on people who are easy to relate to or whom you can laugh. Reality shows can also offer you something you couldn’t usually do or even try. Usually in reality shows they need to drop someone out in every episode, either whit audiences or judges vote. After the result is found out the one who is leaving bawls and needs to give up ones grand dream. Generally the leavers also swear that “You will hear about me.

Many criticise reality shows because of the clichés in them. They say that the editor has done really good job, because there is also another path to walk to. Shows which tell about an employee or a place of work, like Police station, Tourist guides or Hospital, are really honest, and you cannot blame them from lack of realism. The ultimate thing in a show is to see who wins the grand price, which sounds great, but isn’t ever going to cover all the lost the person has caused to himself. There are also shows where people change their life only by participating.

In reality it’s important to show the relationships and social interaction, the way people can express them. It is delicious to watch how people form leagues and think how to make it till the very end without hurting anybody’s feelings so they get the grand price for themselves. This kind of shows it is easy to pick a favourite person to support.

Reality shows are popular because no-one can be hurt by watching them. It is pure entertainment and an easy solution for everyone. I enjoy watching reality shows, they are easy to watch and follow. Big Brother is maybe the only reality show I would never watch. Reality shows opens doors while closing some windows. Reality is easy entertainment for all the people. We will see what happens to the perfect Angelina Jolie when there is no market for her.

A thank you speech

The members of the Academy, ladies and gentlemen

I am really honoured to be standing here. This is what I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little child. It is amazing to stand here and know how rocky the road is behind me.

I want to thank all the members of our cast; you were always there for me. Special thanks to the director, you were marvellous, and I am a better actor after being in a film you directed. Thanks to the special effects group, I would be nothing without you, you really made the movie. And of course it was easy to fall to Robert Pattinson’s arms, thanks to you I didn’t fall down.

I will thank my parents who were standing by my side all the time. I need to thank my little sister who taught me how to be you no matter what others think. Thanks to my dog Marley, who made me take him out even when it was raining.

I also want to thank all of my fans who have been so positive and supportive on this project. Thanks also to those who have hated me since the beginning, you have taught me to be proud of who I am and where I come from. Finally I will thank those who decided that I was worth giving this grand credit. You don’t know how happy I’m standing here. I’m glad that you made my dreams come true.

Thank you.

The culture I'd like to live in

The culture I’d like to live in is American culture. I don’t know precisely why, but I believe it’s because of the way American people express themselves. Even the way people talk to each other is different.  People are open and loud but I think it’s just a part of culture. In Finland there is this great silence almost everywhere you go, so I love that Americans make a fuss of everything. It feels like people care each other more there than they do here.

The culture in America is so different than in Europe. Everything is big and grand and no-one is ashamed of it, people are proud of themselves and their own way of living and doing things. The cities are huge and the apartments rise to the sky like mountains while people walk down the street like ants. I think that everyone there is a hero of own life. Everyone is a part of the great American dream, which makes everyone special and unique, which is crucial to everyone. Americans love their country and it shows; they sing their national anthem a lot more often than for instance Finnish people do. They also have some holidays we don’t have, like Thanksgiving, which make families and also the nation come together.

People in the USA are more impulsive and it is really inspiring. America has always been a place to make your dreams come true and a song also says that: if you can make it there you can make it anywhere. That is the point of being American; a need to show others that you will survive. The most important thing is to go for your dreams and simply try; it doesn’t matter if you don’t succeed because you have your family and friends to take care of you.

Film evaluation from Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump was released in 1994 and it’s directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film is based on a novel written by Winston Groom. It’s an epic drama-comedy with romantic elements in it. The leading actor, Tom Hanks, won an Academy Award from the best performance by an actor in a leading role and that tells something about the quality of a film.

The film deals with how a disabled person can survive in life just as well as ‘normal’ people, or even better. Forrest simply sits on a bench waiting for a bus and tells about his life to everyone who sits next to him also waiting for a bus to take him to Jenny. She is the one who Forrest has always loved. He tells how he made it in and out from the braces he wore around both of his legs, how he met Elvis Presley and taught him to dance and what happened to him in the Vietnam War. There are also several incidents which affect our life nowadays, like investing money in Apple or inspiring Scott Fahlman, the inventor of emoticons. Waiting for the bus Forrest tells that he is going to see Jenny, who has contacted him after a really long time. Later on Forrest finds out that he and Jenny have a child together, who is also named Forrest. They marry each other and later on Jenny dies to an unknown virus which couldn’t be healed. A film ends in a similar situation as it started: Forrest Sr. sitting on a bench on his son’s first day of school like Forrest’s mom sat when he was picked by the school bus. The Film’s from 1950 to 1990 and it’s easy to follow the time, because of all of the incidents which take part in a film, like the Watergate scandal and hurricane Carmen. The main characters are Forrest Gump, Jenny Curran, Dan Taylor and Benjamin “Bubba” Blue. All of the people Forrest meets have an effect on his life.

When I saw Forrest Gump for the first time I was amazed and I knew that it was the best movie I had ever seen and it still is. Forrest Gump is a story about caring each others without labeling them, and everybody should remember that. I cannot identify myself to the characters since I couldn’t ever be as unselfish as all the people in the movie are, especially the main characters. All the characters are plausible and the actors’ performances support the characters. I think that there cannot be a person who wouldn’t be impressed of a film. The atmosphere in the film is really peaceful and it makes you laugh and snivel. Forrest Gump is for all the people irrespective of their skin colour, age, sexual orientation or the political party they belong to. Of course it isn’t a film for the smallest children because of the war themes in it. You can watch it over and over again and never be bored. It brings light to everyone’s life. The film is easy to follow with or without subtitles for the language is quite clear and there aren’t too many difficult phrases you wouldn’t know. There is nothing I would’ve done differently since the film is so marvelous and surprising. You can never know what happens in life and that is what Forrest Gump taught me. Like Forrest’s mom always said “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
